Generations of quality

  • Pre-1930s

    Edward T. Allcock forms Barrowcliffe and Allcock, going on to win a competition to build the Carnegie Library in Loughborough.

  • 1930s

    Allcock and Grieves is established by Alcock and new partner R.M. Grieves, providing architectural work with a particular focus on education.

  • 1940s

  • 1950s

    Roy Hardy joins, going on to expand the practice’s work in educational projects.

  • 1960s

  • 1970s

    Roy Hardy takes over from RM Grieves.

  • 1980s

  • 1990s

    Andrew Hardy - Roy’s son - joins the practice and begins to form partnerships to widen project capacity and collaboration. This includes a multiple PFI school-building contract in Yorkshire.

  • 2000s

    Andrew takes over the practice, securing Tier 1 school and university building projects around the UK, as well as opening new offices in Oxford and Perthshire. ISO certifications are earned.

  • 2010s

    The practice delivers several successful projects in special educational needs (SEN) schools, developing a reputation for inclusive design. It also designs the first phase of Leicester City Council’s first social housebuilding programme for years.

  • 2020s

    Gains first in-house Passive Haus designer accredited, developing a Vitruvius school design option for offsite volumetric construction to Passive Haus standards. The practice also develops standard primary school design for Leicestershire County Council’s Future Schools building programme. The Alcock and Greaves brand is modernised to A+G Architects as the company approaches its century.

Founded in 1934, A+G Architects has spanned multiple generations and provided decades of quality architectural practice. We have evolved over time from a community-rooted, family-led firm into a multidisciplinary team with a proven track record in both public and private sectors projects.
